One Can Do More

I CAN do things you cannot, you CAN do things I cannot;
together we CAN do great things.

Several years ago, our board member Mark Helms, who works at Central Piedmont Community College, asked a graphic art design class to take the project of designing a new logo for Main Street mission. The class accepted the challenge and soon presented their design, "One CAN Do More". We loved it at first sight and new immediately this would be our motto.

You may have seen our logo in our newsletters, on our tee shirts and recently on our yard signs placed throughout our community for our capital campaign. In one aspect, with MSM being a food pantry, the CAN represents the food donations that are needed to help sustain the basic need for food on our neighbor’s tables. Cans of food will always be needed, and there will always be families who will struggle to meet their most basic needs. There is great satisfaction in knowing that our community CAN and is willing to sustain and maintain the needed food items to support a food pantry. No one should go hungry. For 14 years, Main Street Mission has provided food for anyone in need in China Grove. That is something of which we can be proud. When everyONE participates and donates cans of food, ONE CAN makes a difference.

There is also another meaning to our logo. ONE person can make a difference. One person cannot do everything, but ONE person can do something. ONE person can make a hot meal for our Getting Ahead Class. ONE person can attend a bridges training and help build bridges of understanding and offer hope to someone who has very little hope. ONE person can be an advocate for someone who does not believe they have a voice. ONE person can donate to our capital campaign to help provide needed space for new programs through our Bridge Builders Initiative. ONE person can pray that all of our neighbors can live a more abundant life.

Thank you for your prayers and support, and I will end with one of my favorite quotes,

I CAN do things you cannot, you CAN do things I cannot;
together we CAN do great things.
